Austrian Airlines temporarily terminates flight operations as of Wednesday night

Austrian Airlines decided to temporarily terminate all flight operations starting Wednesday night, 18 March 2020. This move is in response to entry bans being imposed across the globe and a rapid decline in demand for air travel. Initially, Austrian Airlines will cancel all flights up until 28 March 2020.

Flight operations will be scaled back in a controlled and structured manner in order to bring all passengers, crews and aircraft home if possible. To enable customers to return home quickly, a simplified goodwill rule applies (TWP 2009):

  • Passengers with booked Austrian Airlines flights for travel from 19 March 2020, whose tickets was issued on OS/LH/LX/SN/EN documents

  • Rebooking on an alternative Lufthansa Group flight/connection (operated by: OS, LH, LX, SN, EW, 4U, WK, EN) – in the original ticketed booking class or, alternatively, in the originally ticketed compartment.

  • Rebooking on flights operated by other airlines (OAL) – in the original ticketed booking class only

  • New travel date: 16 to 18 March 2020

  • In the case of reissues the endorsement entry should read: TWP 2009

You can do these rebookings/reissues yourself, no waiver is necessary.

Please check back regularly to find out about further developments and previously published goodwill rules.

Austrian Airlines is already preparing to relaunch operations after the crisis so that the Austrian flag carrier can be ready to go as soon as possible once demand recovers.
