Important information on flight cancellations from 6 through 9 March 2024

The current strike situation presents us all with major challenges. Due to the large number of cancellations and reduced rebooking options, the Lufthansa Group airlines will not be able to offer solutions for all passengers.

Flight cancellations for 6 and 7 March 2024:

To process these short-term flight cancellations, Lufthansa has used the OPR tool, which in many cases automatically rebooked passengers on an alternative flight connection. Many of these travel alternatives have also now been canceled due to the additional strike by security staff. You may change the automatically booked alternative yourself in accordance with the SKCHG/INVOL policy.

Flight cancellations for 8 and 9 March 2024:

The flight cancellations for those days were made in accordance with the long-term process. This means that in these cases a UN has been set in the PNR, but no automated rebooking has been made. You are welcome to make rebookings / reissues / refunds for canceled flights yourself in accordance with the SKCHG/INVOL policy.

Strike of security staff at Frankfurt and Hamburg airports on 7 March 2024

At Frankfurt Airport (FRA), the security checkpoints outside the transit area will be closed. Access to the departure area will therefore not be possible. Passengers starting their journey in Frankfurt will thus not be able to reach their flight.

It is expected that transfer processes for connecting passengers in the transit area will largely be possible. Transit passengers must not leave the transit area in Frankfurt under any circumstances, as it will then no longer be possible to return to this area and to the departure gate.

There will be no departures on Thursday, 7 March 2024 at Hamburg Airport (HAM).

ver.di also calls on security staff at Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf airports to strike on 7 March 2024

Following the call for strike action at Hamburg and Frankfurt airports, the union ver.di has also called for all-day strikes at Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) and Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) on Thursday, 7 March 2024, at short notice and unannounced for employees in the aviation security sector.

Due to the spontaneous strike action taken by ver.di without any advance notice, considerable disruptions to flight operations and flight cancellations are to be expected. There are likely to be significant delays at passenger checkpoints.

The Lufthansa Group airlines offer travelers booked on flights to and from Germany extended options to rebook or have their tickets refunded free of charge (TWP 2403).
