Strike by ver.di union at several German airports on 17 February 2023

The trade union ver.di strike call at the airports of Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), Stuttgart (STR), Hamburg (HAM), Hanover (HAJ), Dortmund (DTM) and Bremen (BRE) on Friday, 17 February 2023 will have a massive impact on flight operations.

Lufthansa will have to cancel many flights on Friday, 17 February 2023. At Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Stuttgart airports, regular flight operations will be suspended for the entire day.

Please note that long-haul flights departing on Thursday, 16 February 2023, and originally scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt or Munich on Friday, 17 February 2023, will have to be canceled too. In addition, further short- and long-haul flights with a departure on Thursday, 16 February 2023 have also been canceled. Furthermore, selected long-haul flights with a scheduled departure from Frankfurt and Munich on Friday, 17 February 2023 will be postponed to Saturday, 18 February 2023. Other Lufthansa Group airlines flights to/from Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dortmund, Hanover und Bremen are also affected by flight cancellations.

Lufthansa expects regular flight operations to be largely back to normal as early as Saturday, 18 February 2023.

The flight cancellations are being implemented today, Wednesday, 15 February 2023. Passengers affected by cancellations will be informed immediately today (provided the contact details are stored in the booking) and rebooked on alternative flights if possible. However, the capacities available for rebookings are very limited.

We ask passengers to check the status of their flight before setting out on their journey.

Train ticket for cancelled German domestic flights

If a German domestic Lufthansa flight is cancelled, passengers can exchange their ticket into a Deutsche Bahn ticket free of charge.

Important notes regarding short-term flight cancellations

In case of short-term flight cancellations within 48 hours (in select cases: up to 5 days) before departure, no (immediate) UN will be set in the PNR in all cases. In this case, you can do the rebooking/reissue without having to request a waiver.

Lufthansa Group rules for rebooking/reissue/refund for cancelled flights

Customers affected by a flight cancellation can rebook once free of charge or have their ticket refunded. You are welcome to make rebookings/reissues/refunds for cancelled flights on Austrian Airlines/Brussels Airlines/Lufthansa/SWISS tickets yourself in accordance with the Schedule Change/Irregularity Policy for Travel Agents (OS/SN/LH/LX).

Please note: The Schedule Change/Irregularity Policy only applies to flights which have already been cancelled.
